They call me Mr. Vulnerability, and I wear the name on purpose. In a profession that treats certainty as competence and doubt as danger, the word makes people flinch. It should not.
Vulnerability is not weakness and it is not weakness dressed up as strategy. It is the courage to be seen honestly — to name a mistake, to ask a question you "should" already know the answer to, to lead as a whole person instead of a polished mask.
Trust is what keeps talent
Firms lose their best people to cultures that feel transactional and siloed — where no one is honest, everyone is guarded, and the pressure never lets up. The antidote is not a wellness perk. It is a leader at the top who models honesty and makes it safe for everyone else to be honest too.
You cannot demand trust. You can only go first — and be worth following when you do.
When leaders trade the armor of infallibility for authentic, emotionally intelligent leadership, the whole culture shifts: from transactional to collaborative, from guarded to candid, from high-turnover to high-performing. That shift is the work — and it is worth it.
